Please know I hope you are right, but why do you say the Pens got the better? I need help with this.

Major Advantage Penguins. Depends what those picks are. Mcann is a former 1st Rounder still 22 years old. Florida will likely flip Brassard

Bjugstad is made of glass, and can't use his size or speed. Can't believe we got anything more than a 3rd or 4th round pick for him, honestly. McCann will never be more than a 3rd liner. Great move by the Panthers.

They got affordable depth with term. Some injury risk with Bjugstad but I assume he'll thrive playing with a competent franchise/coaching staff. Panthers got money off the books and cleared space for their good young prospects to start taking over bigger roles.

I disagree

Bjugstad is a 4th liner made of wet paper, he'll probably get injured 3 times on the flight to meet the pens

I feel like McCann is an alright piece, but seems like a guy who will probably top out as maybe on okay 3rd line guy.

The panthers got a 2nd, 2 4th's, plus whatever they flip those 2 guys for at the deadline.

I think Florida won this deal

Curious to see if FLA does in fact flip Brassard and to who/for what...

Bjugstad was having a brutal season...but so was brassard...

hard to say who wins until we see if somebody can revive is season elsewhere...

I get McCan was a 1st round pick, but less relevant when its 4 years ago..

Seems like a versatile reliable forward, but a 30 pts guy

I think the fact that the pens had to give up 3 picks here tilts the scale towards the panthers.

the players the pens got are basically a wash with the players they gave up, or close to it, and they gave up 3 picks to acquire them.

if panthers flip Brassard, they get a boat load of picks out of this trade deadline ...

pens win this trade easy. Sheahan and brassard were UFAs are the end of the year. brassard is 31, sheahan is 27. bjugstad is 26 and signed thru 2021. mcann is signed thru 2020 and is 22. they lose $5.1M but gain $5.25M. to give up a 2nd and two 4ths (but one was oleksiak pick), is worth it to get younger and added years of cost certainty.

bjugstad had 49 points last yr, mccann had 28.

Florida moved out cap, they are going to be players for UFA/RFA this year.

Bjustad is going to get injured, cant stay healthy.
he has 12 points this year or something like that.

Its not an easy win. McCann still has value, but remains to be seen if he can grow into anything more than a secondary winger.

Brassard as part of a package to CBJ for Panarin makes a (frank) ton of sense now. That org and coach probably think they'll get the good Brass they knew.

...and they very well could.

I saw a player who still had the wheels and effort...just wasnt burying shots. He was flubbing on passes a lot. I think he was in his own head with the less minutes, no 1st unit PP time and trade talks looming.

IF ,(notice the big if), they get steady production from bjugstad and McCann then it’s a great pickup and it solidifies their center position for a few years. Sheahan and brassard were most likely gone after this year

Bingo! Guarenteed Florida flips Brassard as well. They just want to open up some spots, as they felt Bjugstad and Mccann were not going to progress any further. Pens, got younger and will have some cap space moving forward.

Bob and Panarin

for

2019 1st
Denisenko
Brassard
Luongo/Reimer

(+) Some picks? 2020 1st?

Columbus is basically giving up the playoffs though unless they make more trades.

Rutherford needed a 3rd line Center and brought in 2 question marks and tied up cap space. Odd move. They should have targeted Brandon Sutter or Pageau or Zack Smith. It's not the deadline yet though.

Good move by Tallon. Frees up cap space. They can always flip Brassard, however THEY need a 3rd line center TOO. Cats need to make a push now if they want to make playoffs.
